About this Piece:
I make my inks from ingredients in my environment or with specific elements I seek from other makers. The original artwork for this piece was created with homemade black walnut ink and pokeberry ink on cold-press watercolor paper. Walnut ink gives a warmer tone than black ink, while pokeberry ink gives a vibrant magenta that is temporary and fades with time. Because the original painting degrades with time, it is not for sale. In order to preserve the images, I scan them and have them professionally printed using archival inks and high-quality fine art paper. The reproduction prints look identical to the original art at the time it was scanned. These prints will not degrade due to the archival quality of the inks and paper used for reproduction. Since the original painting fades away, the archival limited edition prints are all that remain.
Hebridean Hills:
Unusual livestock observed at a local Sheep and Wool Festival near Rhinebeck, NY was the inspiration for this piece. Hebridean sheep often have 2 sets of horns and sometimes more, making them the ultimate black sheep.
